In recent years, both the Spanish Government and the autonomous communities and town councils have introduced subsidies and grants for the installation of solar panels.

Their aim is to facilitate the transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy production model, with many long-term benefits.

These subsidies are for the installation of self-consumption and storage systems with renewable energies for individuals, the self-employed, SMEs, and companies.

In the case of state aid, this is managed by the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE), working within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), and is set out in the Royal Decrees 447/2021 and 1124/2021.

The aid for photovoltaic installations will depend on the power and will vary from 15% to 45%.

Self-consumption installations in the Valencian Community: What grants and subsidies are available?

The climate in the Valencia area makes the region ideal for the installation of photovoltaic panels. In fact, it is also estimated that 82% of roofs are suitable for self-consumption, which means high profitability and a good return on investment for these systems.

If you live in the Valencia area, and are looking for grants or subsidies to install solar panels, then you will be interested to know that the Generalitat has launched a specific aid plan for the installation of self-consumption systems with renewable energy sources – in the residential sector, public administrations and the voluntary sector, with or without storage.

The aid is part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan for the region of Valencia, and the maximum subsidy to be received in all cases covers the first 5 MW of the installation’s capacity.

Another condition for eligibility is that the sum of the electrical energy consumed by the consumer or consumers connected to the installation must be equal to, or greater than, 80% of the annual energy generated by the system. In other words, the energy generated must be used mainly for self-consumption.

Other grants for solar panel installation if you live in Valencia are:

IBI rebate (Real Estate Tax)

These subsidies depend on the local councils and are valid for several years (normally three), with a cap of 50%. In addition, they are complemented by other local subsidies for maximum annual costs, initial investment, cost of materials, etc.

Personal income tax deduction on the annual Income Tax Return

The Valencian Community offers the possibility of reducing personal income tax for the installation of self-consumption photovoltaic systems.
To be eligible for this subsidy, households must meet certain requirements, such as it being for the main residence. If it is a second residence, then up to 20% may be deducted.

In the case of shared self-consumption, the deduction can be applied to all owners concerned.

Finally, the installation has to be properly legalised, in accordance with current administrative requirements, by a qualified installation company.

The maximum amount that can be deducted with these subsidies is 40% if it is a primary residence, and 20% for second homes.
